“…can I bring a friend?”

The question always arises, “…can I bring a friend?” Of course the standard answer is “yes, of course.” Once the stomach butterflies flutter heavenly and things start to roll there’s no longer a need for companionship.

Fall Colors Amongst Us

Friends, Fall Colors are upon us. Yesterday, I ventured out with my favorite models to survey the early Fall Colors. While not so willing the promise of ice cream was a strong encourager.

Subjects were backlit so I added a splash of fill flash. Of course the best shots resulted from having the flash off the camera which can prove challenging with fast paced little ones.

I’m starting to enjoy taking time from my business grind to do something new or interesting. Yesterday I went to the see a PBY CATALINA land at SEAPLANE BASE, OAK HARBOR, WASHINGTON.

Being a people photographer I quickly focused on the visitors. An assortment of onlookers gathered: fussy toddlers without naps and seasoned vets limping on crutches all gathered to celebrate the landing of a PBY Catalina at the Seaplane Base. Then I noticed an interesting trend…the cameras! Cell phones, videos with still frames, point and shoots in video modes, wind & click disposables, iPhones with instant uploading. Amateurs and working pros alike worked shoulder to shoulder to capture a piece of aviation history. The air buzzed with simulated shutter clicks only to be silenced by the sputter and eventual roar of the Catalina’s duel engines.
“Digital recording gadgets have changed the face of photography”, I thought. Like the Catalina perhaps my bag of once precious camera equipment have become historical artifacts.

Hi Key Adventure

I'm perfecting my Hi-Key adventure. Occasionally, I get a Hi-Key request but not enough to stay in practice. Now I have the lighting, etc. down to a demonstrable standard. Thanks Mike for being a willing model.

Why are these people leaping for joy? Because we did it! What is “IT” that we did? All eyes open, everybody sported a smile and we had Gerry on the road to Portland by 7 p.m. … only minutes before the sun dropped below the horizon. Thanks to the cooperation and skilled planning by the Brooks/Foppe team, environmental portraiture in Mariners Cove was elevated to a new standard.

Faithful Over a few Things

Wednesday’s session challenged all to be more faithful and patient. The wind was windy, a neighbor was falling trees, the rain came and went and came again. Finally in the midst of havoc there came a peace! The sun and white fluffy clouds popped out. We had beautiful rim lighting. I added a pinch of fill-flash and bingo we had embraceable images.

There’s an old adage: If you don’t like Whidbey weather…wait a while… it’ll get better.

Family Holiday Cards

NOW is the time to think about family holiday cards. Let me tell you why. You definitely want to avoid the last minute rush, allow for shipping, coordination of family schedule...you know the drill! If you’re planning an environmental session, the weather is now in your favor. Most of my cards layouts are custom made verses tweaked templates…this takes time. Let’s connect now before the rush. www.pendletonimaging.com

Becky and Scotty Carlson's wedding at the Ol' Hometead

Jacob and Sarah Ebey's homestead, in Coupeville Wa, was a wonderful place to jump-start Becky and Scotty Carlson's Sunday wedding. Many Japanese students were gathered to witness the unfolding of a glorious occasion. Big fun & excitement was had by all.
